SAQ Grimeton scheduled to air on UN-Day, Oct 24th 2026

SAQ Grimeton scheduled to air on UN-Day, Oct 24th 2026 One of six antenna towers at World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station, Sweden. SAQ was put into commercial radio traffic on December 1st 1924, at first on 16.2 kHz. In mid December 1924, the frequency was changed to 16.1 kHz and on Dec 24th 1926 it was changed back to 16.2 kHz. On March 10th 1927 SAQ’s frequency was again changed, this time to 17.0 kHz, a frequency previously used by Italian station IRC in Rome. Only two weeks later, on April 3rd 1927 SAQ’s frequency was again changed, now to 17.2 kHz, a frequency previously occupied by LPV in Buenos Aires, in order to provide “suitable noninterfering wave channel for new Belgian station ORU Ruysselede”, according to the traffic manager at RCA. 17.2 kHz has since then, except for a short period in the 1950’s when SAQ was transmitting on 17.25 kHz, been the frequency we all now belongs to the historical Alexanderson alternator SAQ at Grimeton Radio Station in Sweden. On UN-Day, October 24th, 2026, SAQ is scheduled* to spread a peace message to the World on 17.2 kHz CW. Contest IARU Regione 1 UHF e Microwave

Durante il prossimo weekend (3-4 Ottobre 2026) si terrà l'appuntamento più importante dell'anno per le bande dai 432MHz a salire ovvero il Contest IARU Regione 1 UHF & Microwave.

Ma veniamo al perché di questa mail.
Ti scriviamo perché gradiremmo anche la tua partecipazione al contest:
- per far sentire in ambito internazionale la massiccia presenza delle stazioni italiane
- per incrementare l'attività stessa e utilizzare sempre di più tutta la banda a nostra disposizione
- per dare qualche occasione di punti in più a chi gareggia in maniera competitiva, facendo salire le nostre stazioni italiane nella classifica internazionale
- per aiutare anche chi ama stare in radio senza velleità competitive ma vuole solo cercare di mettere a log più stazioni possibili
- per sfruttare un'occasione di possibili dx, essendo on air le maggiori stazioni con i set up migliori che cercano anche ogni più debole segnale.

Inoltre, non va scordato che il Contest IARU UHF & Microwave dà diritto ad un moltiplicatore per lo IAC, indipendentemente dal punteggio conseguito.
Non va mai dimenticato che vale sempre il detto "USALE O PERDILE", riferito alle nostre bande.
Abbiamo imparato che nulla è per sempre e scontato, in particolare le bande dalle VHF a salire sono sempre sotto pressione da parte di altri servizi che richiedono sempre maggiore banda.

Cosa dobbiamo fare?
Usarle nel miglior modo possibile e soprattutto dare evidenza del loro uso attraverso articoli, classifiche contest nutrite di partecipanti da tutte le aree, report su siti web e social.
A noi non costa nulla, ma credeteci siamo sempre sotto attenta osservazione e anche i nostri legislatori ben sanno cosa significhi anche la parola "contest".
A tutto questo va aggiunto anche un po’ di orgoglio nazionale essendo questi contest internazionali; l’Italia ha dimostrato negli ultimi anni di essere la nazione più presente nelle classifiche internazionali dopo la Germania e Rep. Ceca, ricevendo il plauso di molti partecipanti; in particolare team dei paesi vicini si sono resi conto della grande attività del nostro paese, che negli ultimi anni è diventata un bacino da non sottovalutare, e non è un caso che molti di loro abbiano installato sistemi di antenna dedicati all'Italia.

Quindi per concludere: partecipate e anche se fate pochi qso non importa, inviate sempre il vostro log in formato EDI, gestito dai più comuni software contest VHF, come QARTest, ContestLog di IZ5HQB, Contest Assist e molti altri.

Radio Caroline North

Radio Caroline North is scheduled to broadcast live from the radio ship MV Ross Revenge over the weekend of 10–11 October 2026.

This monthly live offshore broadcast brings back mainly former pirate radio DJs playing music from the '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s.

You can tune in to the special broadcast through multiple platforms:
